RICHMOND - Even among the charmed lives that professional athletes lead, the last 72 hours have had to be pretty special for Jeff Gordon. Start with Tuesday afternoon, where Gordon won the rain-delayed Advocare 500 in Atlanta in one of his most dominating head-to-head performances in history, a win that gave him sole possession of third place all-time on NASCAR's win list.
Oh, but he was just getting started. Join us for the journey, won't you?
Next up, Gordon flew to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday to join several of his fellow drivers in meeting with the President of the United States. You know, routine stuff.
Enough for a week, right? Not exactly. On Thursday, Gordon began the day with an appearance in Richmond, site of this weekend's race. He followed that with a sponsor appearance in Washington, D.C. for the AARP. And then there was the Dolce & Gabbana Fashion Week event his wife wanted to attend:
"My lovely wife, who loves fashion, asked a few weeks ago if I'd make a trip up to New York," Gordon said on Friday at Richmond. "I told her it was impossible to do. She said please, and I can't say no to her." Hence, the following photo from the Twitter feed of Gordon's wife Ingrid Vandebosch:
Yep, that's the Gordons with Usher and Justin Bieber. Gordon compared the crowd's Bieber Fever to Beatlemania: "It was like a rock concert for teenage girls," he said. "It was quite the experience."
And now he's back to his day job, preparing for this weekend's race at Richmond. Driving alone in a car is going to be a relief after this week.
